The Coolest Ice Bars in the Lake George Area (2025–26)

Winter in New York can be frigid. The subzero temperatures keep some people inside, warming their hands in front of the fire and missing out on the wonder of the season. Others embrace the cold, bundling up in heavy coats and thick gloves, to gather around the coolest ice bars in the region.

In the Lake George Area we don’t just tolerate winter — we celebrate it! From elegant lakeside lounges to laid-back village parties carved from ice, you can plan an entire winter weekend around these limited-time, only-in-winter experiences.

What is an ice bar?

Using saws and chisels, master artisans sculpt bars made entirely of ice. These flawless and intricate creations become the centerpieces of fancy lounges and local watering holes throughout the Lake George Area. The first ice bars are carved in January, but the ice bar season really hits its stride in February, when winter events and the Lake George Winter Carnival bring everyone outside to celebrate.

At an ice bar, you can expect:

  • Specialty winter cocktails (sometimes served down an ice luge!)
  • Photo-worthy ice sculptures and carved seating
  • Outdoor fire pits or warming areas
  • Occasional themes, live music, or food specials
  • A very limited run — once the weather warms, it’s gone

Who can go?

Most ice bars in the Lake George Area are designed for adults 21+ because of the cocktail focus, but several of the village events and festival-style ice bars build in family-friendly elements (games, music, food, outdoor winter fun). If you’re bringing kids, check that specific venue’s event listing below to confirm times and family hours.

What should I wear?

Dress like you’re going to be outside in January — because you are!

  • Warm winter coat
  • Boots with good traction
  • Hat and gloves/mittens
  • Layers you can peel off if the venue has a heated area
  • Shorts are not recommended, even if you’re “just running in for a drink”

Some places provide blankets, heaters, or even rentable igloos, but it’s better to arrive ready for Adirondack winter.

When do Lake George Area ice bars happen?

Most ice bars run late January through February, lining up with broader winter happenings in the region. Exact dates can shift year to year based on weather and the day of the week, so it’s always a good idea to check the specific event page right before you go.

Frequently Asked Ice-Bar Questions

Do ice bars cost money?
Some do — especially resort-style or ticketed bars. Others are free to enter but you’ll pay for food and drinks. Check out our event listings for the most current info.

How long can I stay?
Most people stay 1–2 hours, especially if it’s cold. Some venues with igloo or fire-pit reservations may give you a specific window.

Is the ice sanitary?
Yes. You won’t be drinking “off” the bar — drinks are prepared and served just like any other bar, just in a very cool (literally) setting.

Can locals go, or is this just for visitors?
Locals absolutely go. In fact, a lot of these events are popular with Warren County residents because they’re so limited-time.

What if the weather warms up?
Ice bars are weather-dependent. If there’s an unusually warm stretch, sculpting may be delayed or elements may be removed for safety. Check the event listing the day you go.
