Rafting

Whitewater rafting is the most intense adventure to be had in the Adirondacks. Between the spring and fall, thousands of people flock to the whitecapped waves along the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers. These two distinct rivers provide an exhilarating challenge for paddlers with conditions ranging from easy and relaxing to difficult and raging.

The Hudson River offers some of the most rip-roaring rafting in the country. Conquering “The Mighty Hudson” requires rafters to battle Class III to Class V rapids. Snowmelt in the spring builds giant whitewater and deep pools that daring paddlers love. The summer heat then lowers the water to more manageable levels, making the Hudson River one of the best natural attractions in the southern Adirondacks.

The Sacandaga River has great whitewater for beginners. Slow-flowing, dam-released Class I and Class II rapids ensure safe, family-friendly adventure. Traverse this four-mile stretch just above the confluence of the Hudson and Sacandaga with outfitters that are only 10 short minutes from Lake George.

No matter the river, our region is home to an impressive amount of highly experienced rafting companies and certified guides, who double as excellent storytellers with a plethora of knowledge about local history and geography. The Lake George Area is, without a doubt, your hub for wicked whitewater fun.
