Sometimes a short getaway is exactly what the family needs. The Lake George Area is the perfect destination for a weekend escape! Whether your family loves the water and being outdoors, or indoor activities and staying cool, there’s no shortage of fun. Check out these five activities that you and your family can’t miss when you visit the Lake George Area.
Beaches
Hitting the beach under the hot summer sun is a must. Spread out your beach towel and take a nap in the sand, or spend the entire day splashing around in the water. There’s plenty of beachfront throughout the Lake George Area.

Those staying in the Lake George Village can swim at Million Dollar Beach along the southern end of Lake George or Shepard Park in the center of town. If you’re hanging out in Bolton Landing, try Veterans Memorial Park or Rogers Memorial Park. Or, head for the Hague Town Beach Park.

Shopping
It’s not a vacation without a little souvenir shopping! When the temps get too high, head indoors to the Factory Outlets of Lake George. These four shopping centers are located just five minutes south of the Lake George Village and offer high-quality brand name goods at crazy discount prices.

Walk the streets of Bolton Landing, the Lake George Village, or downtown Glens Falls to discover gift shops, outdoor goods, boutique clothing stores, and more. You can find big-box stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, and JCPenney at the Aviation Mall in the Town of Queensbury.

Cruises on the “Queen of American Lakes”
Taking a ride on the steamboats of Lake George is one of the best ways to experience the lake, explore the bays, and see the sights. Cruise with the Lake George Steamboat Company on one of their three iconic ships – the Minne Ha-Ha, the Mohican, or the Lac du Saint Sacrement. Another option is to board the Horicon or the Adirondac, which are ships owned by Lake George Waterfront Cruises.

Watersports
The Lake George Area wouldn’t be one of New York’s premier summer vacation destinations without a wide variety of watersports. There are several ways to enjoy the wakes!

Those who have a need for speed can rent Waverunners and Jet Skis through Chic’s Marina. Their half-hour tours give riders the perfect amount of time to experience some thrills. If you’d rather relax on the water, rent a kayak or paddle board from Lake George Kayak Company. There’s nothing more peaceful than a paddle off the sunny shores of Lake George.

Art & Museums
The Lake George Area is a cultural hub of art, history, and culture. Visitors to the area can fill an entire weekend just exploring our museums. Those who love history should most definitely take a tour of the Fort William Henry Museum, where interactive exhibits highlight the pivotal role the Lake George Area played in the French and Indian War.
