Thurman

From the Hudson River along our eastern boundary to thousands of Forever Wild acres on our west, visitors to Thurman are immersed in natural beauty.

In winter, choose between fireside snuggling with a good book as snow blankets the landscape or suiting up for outdoor fun. Ski at nearby Gore Mountain, or ride the 188 miles of trails groomed by Thurman Connection Snowmobile Club. You may also try sledding, snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing.

Each March during NYS Maple Weekends, Thurman’s maple producers host three weekends of Thurman Maple Days with open sugar houses, sugaring demonstrations, and tours, including samples and sales of delectable maple goodies of all descriptions. Thurman’s annual Maple Sugar Party, an all-you-can-eat buffet topped off with a dessert of traditional “Jack wax,” is the highlight of the sugaring season. Tour Nettle Meadow Goat Farm and Cheese Company any Saturday at noon, or visit the cheese shop when open. Spring brings additional outdoor adventures–rafting, canoeing and kayaking from WildWaters Outdoor Center or Beaver Brook Outfitters, or, for those with their own craft, the Hudson River can be accessed from the public launch on Route 418.

Laze under summer skies for free Monday night concerts, or go fishing throughout the season.

Autumn brings October's Thurman Fall Farm Tour, and hunters will revel in the abundance of deer, bear and turkey in fall. Many kinds of lodging is available – from the amenities at The Glen Lodge, to campsites at Glen-Hudson or Daggett Lake campsites.
