One of the most spectacular views in the Adirondacks!
Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway is open from late May through Veterans' Day, weather permitting.
The spectacular 100-mile view from the 2,030' summit of Prospect Mountain can be accessed by driving the 5.5-mile winding road.
A beautiful 2-lane highway leads to a parking lot at the summit. En route are three overlooks, offering picturesque views of The Narrows, Lake George, and The Eagle's Eye.
There are beautiful views of Vermont's Green Mountains, New Hampshire's White Mountains, New York's Adirondack High Peaks and on a very clear day, the Laurentian Mountains of Canada can be seen.
From the parking lot, take the continuously running view-mobile to the summit for more spectacular views. View the remains of the worlds largest cable railroad and bring a picnic to enjoy on the peak.
There is a rental pavilion available.
Attention cyclists: You can peddle the 5.5 miles to the top of the mountain for $2!
Instead of driving, opt for the 3.2-mile round trip hike, accessible from Smith Street in Lake George Village.
Please Note: For late afternoon visitors please allow enough time for your visit at the lookouts and on the summit as the gate will close at 6 pm through early September; second Saturday in September through end of October and the first two weeks of November the gate will close at 5 pm. On the first, second Saturday, Sunday, and Veterans' Day Monday the gate will close at 3:30pm, Weather Permitting.
