90th Anniversary of the First Ski Train

Come celebrate the 90th anniversary of the First Snow Train in North Creek!

Join local businesses, historians, and skiers as they celebrate this special anniversary! The North Creek Snow Train’s inaugural trip in 1934 brought 378 skiers from Schenectady to North Creek, kickstarting decades of winter tourism in the area.

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a Commemorative Snow Train Chocolate disk at Barkeater Chocolates, to mark the celebration.

2024 Schedule:

  • March 2
    • 8:30am-4:00pm – Gore Mountain Celebrates the First Snow Train to arrive in North Creek:
      • Old ski movies will be shown in Gore Mountain’s base lodge, along with a photo gallery of old ski photos.
    • 8:30am-4:00pm – Ski Bowl Snow Shoe presented by the North Creek Depot Museum:
      • Stop by the Depot Museum to listen to a brief history on the first snow train.
      • Everyone is welcome to meet at Minder Lodge for a snowshoe at North Creek Ski Bowl.
  • March 3
    • 1:00pm
      • First Wilderness Johnsburg Community Day
      • North Creek Walking Tour
      • North Creek Story Hour
        • Stories will be told by Cunninghams, historians, residents, and business owners.
    • 8:30am-4:00pm- Gore Mountain Celebrates the First Snow Train to arrive in North Creek:
