The Inn at Erlowest
Winterfest at Erlowest has put a new spin on the winter ice bar craze with fire bars, tables, places, and pits!
We took the quick drive to The Inn at Erlowest last Saturday to check out this latest wintertime pastime and weren’t disappointed. If you’ve never been to Erlowest before, you’re in for a treat. From the moment you turn off Lake Shore Drive onto the Erlowest grounds, you have a view of the magnificent 1898 stone castle and Lake George behind it.
Erlowest boasts a grand ballroom perfect for hosting large events but the best part of the castle is the massive stone veranda overlooking Lake George. That’s where we spent most of our night. Two bars were set up for Winterfest, one at each end of the veranda.
Make sure to try the signature mulled wine cocktail!
There's Food, Too!
If you find you’re starting to get chilly, head into the ballroom where food stations and passed hors d’ouevres offer Chef Adam Padilla’s 4-Diamond fare! Yum!
Representatives from some of Lake George’s premiere businesses are on hand with information about the area, free activities, and samples.
And the music! When we were there, a saxophonist played jazz in the ballroom and live rock and roll was outside!
More Than Just a Fire Bar
Scattered on the veranda are high top and low top fire tables where guests can sit, sip and enjoy the view. Or, if you prefer the warmth of a wood fire, sit around the fireplace or fire pit overlooking the lake. Bean bag toss games and life-size Jenga make the atmosphere all the more fun. There was a hot chocolate station (we added a little extra fire from the bar to ours), s’mores and plenty of good conversation.
The best part of the night was the sunset! Winter in Lake George is a gorgeous sight. The sun, low in the sky, combines with the clouds to create beautiful hues of pink. Aahhh!
Winterfest starts at 3:00 PM and goes until about 8:00 PM. We found it was a slow start which was nice, making it easy to find a chair at a fire table and get to all the activities. It was steady until about 6:30 PM when the crowd thickened a bit. For us, that was just fine, more people to chat with and challenge to a game of Jenga!
An Insider Tip...
We decided to go all out and stay the night in one of The Inn at Erlowest’s exquisitely appointed suites. It added to the romance of the evening and waking up to a view of Lake George is unforgettable. Not to mention the out-of-this-world breakfast that’s included in your stay!
