There’s nothing quite like cruising through the wintry landscapes of wooded trails as you feel a frosty breeze in the air. For admirers of snow-covered scenery and winter recreation enthusiasts alike, snowmobiling stands out as a seasonal favorite.

And the Lake George Area just so happens to be one of the premier locations around for snowmobilers, with Warren County home to 300 miles of groomed, mapped, and maintained snowmobile trails that not only explore a majority of the area, but also connect with other major Adirondack and New York State trails—perfect for anywhere from short afternoon rides to multi-day adventures.

But don’t let this fact intimidate first-timers, because the diversity of paths and routes accommodates all riders, from casual to experienced.

Learn all about the local trail networks and clubs, gain some helpful tips, and discover where snowmobilers can find nearby lodging and dining spots after a long day of outdoor adventure with this handy snowmobiling guide for the Lake George Area.

Clubs and Trail Networks

There are four distinct snowmobile clubs in Warren County, each one responsible for grooming and maintaining a defined network of trails. Additionally, these clubs are also fantastic resources for local rules and regulations, as well as knowledge on topics such as where to get repairs or where to refuel.

Northern Warren Trailblazers

Located in the northeastern portion of the Lake George Area, the Northern Warren Trailblazers are responsible for maintaining over 80 miles of snowmobile trails, with their trail system connecting Lake George and Warrensburg with the communities of Chestertown, Pottersville, and Brant Lake.

Northern Warren’s network passes through several scenic points and overlooks, including a beautiful view from the summit of Chestertown’s Kipp Mountain, as well as notable lakes like Brant Lake and Loon Lake.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking to explore further into the Adirondack regions, their system also connects to the North Hudson Trails that are part of Schroon Lake in Essex County.

These well-marked trails pass through many smaller waterbodies such as Berry Pond and Lake Vanare, as well as through several wooded trails and preserves. For scenic spots, the views from Lake George’s Prospect Mountain are well-known and worth checking out.

Based in the small town of Thurman, the appropriately named Thurman Connection Snowmobile Club actually links a crucial portion of the Adirondack trails—connecting Lake Luzerne with Speculator in Hamilton County, while also running through the Lake George Area’s Thurman and Stony Creek.

The club also developed a 20-mile trail expansion that connects bridges in Stony Creek with the areas of North Creek and Johnsburg.

Meanwhile, for dining, there’s Stony Creek’s Tavern on the Creek, as well as popular choices in North Creek, including The Hungry Crow, The Barking Spider, and Marsha’s Family Restaurant.

Hague Sno-Goers Club

The Hague Sno-Goers Club operates and maintains the trail system going from Hague and into Essex County, while also connecting with the Northern Warren Trailblazers network to lead into Brant Lake and Chestertown.

The Hague trails are shared between both snowmobilers and cross-country skiers, so snowmobilers should remain alert when riding. Though this network may be smaller than the others, it does pass through some beautiful scenic spots like North Pond and Jade Pond.
