The Americade Motorcycle Touring Rally in the Lake George Area brings thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts to the shores of majestic Lake George to cruise the streets of the Village, explore the beautiful countryside, and take part in all things motorcycle. They show off their custom rides, talk shop, take part in food and drink, and attend live concerts, bike seminars, and trade shows. When it comes to massive and professional motorcycle rallies, no one does it like Americade in the Lake George Area.
What Americade is All About
Now in its 35th year, the Americade Motorcycle Touring Rally is one of the grandest motorcycle events in the country. Americade began in May 1983 as Aspencade East, a nod to another motorcycle rally in New Mexico. The rally was renamed to Americade in 1986 to celebrate the reality of what Americade had become: a multi-faceted celebration of motorcycles. Americade is now one of the largest motorcycle touring rallies in the world.
If you love motorcycles there's no doubt that you'll love Americade. There’s a reason why people travel from all over the country to the Lake George Area every June: there’s absolutely nothing like this event. A morning stroll in the early summer heat down the streets of Lake George Village brings you by dozens of unique motorcycles and their owners. Attendees could spend a full six days strolling the sidewalks and talking motorcycles. Since this is a multi-brand convention the varying tastes of motorcycle riders all have a place to call home. You can find Harley Davidsons, Hondas, Indians, Yamahas and everything else on the streets of Lake George Village during Americade.
If you're a fan of Yamaha motorcycles you won't want to miss their live streamed unveiling of a new product line during Monday's opening celebration. This is a first in Americade's 35-year history.
This is Motorcycle Paradise
Of course, if you bring your bike to Americade you’re going to want to ride. Americade offers guided rides daily, bringing riders through the winding mountain roads of the Adirondacks and the long green byways of Vermont with a stop for lunch at local restaurants in the middle. New this year to Americade is the Amazing Ride, an unguided tour through seven different communities in the Lake George Area. Collect a stamp from each community over the course of the rally and hand them in for a chance of winning an awesome prize.
For those who like to learn about all things motorcycle, Americade University is a program that brings well known and experienced writers, speakers, and industry experts in to provide dozens of seminars and talks. Learn about cooking on the road, proper cornering technique, and transitioning from road to dirt.
Every great motorcycle rally hands out awards for those unforgettable bikes and Americade is no different. Does your bike have enough character to win a category such as touring, cruiser, classic, or vintage? And if your bike lands in another category, don’t worry. There are close to a dozen categories judged as well as awards for other things.
If you’re at Americade looking for a new motorcycle or some new gear, you’re probably not going home empty-handed. Americade is home to a massive expo that offers demos, displays, and gear. Companies that will be at the expo include BMW, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Honda, Indian, and more. If you would like to demo a bike make sure you bring the proper gear and licenses.
More Than Just Motorcycles
The great thing about Americade in the Lake George Area is there is so much to do in addition to motorcycle events. When you get hungry after a long day on the road or at the expo there are dozens of options for dining in the Lake George Area. Dining options run the gamut from burgers and fries to upscale Italian. Waterfront restaurants offer a unique way to see Lake George while enjoying a meal and a cold craft beer from a local brewery.
There are a few other dining options during Americade such as the brand new Country Shindig featuring live music, dancing, line dancing instruction and awesome food. There is also breakfast by the lake every morning and a party on the pier on Saturday.
You can’t leave the Lake George Area without actually getting on the lake. One of the classic ways to do this is on a boat cruise on Lake George. These massive cruise ships serve delicious meals while cruising the lake and narrating the sights. The secluded camping islands and the mansions that line the shores are some of the highlights of the cruise. Stand outside on the deck as you admire the southern Adirondack Mountains then head inside to enjoy fried chicken, baked beans, and more. The Friday night Fireworks Cruise on the Lake George Steamboat Company's Minne-Ha-Ha is a truly special way to see the lake and take in the show. Watching the fireworks show from the deck of the Minne-Ha-Ha is as close to the action as you can get.
And Great Music Too
One of the biggest non-motorcycle events of Americade is the concert series. The live music begins on Friday night. The Weekend Rock Gods, based out of Albany, will be playing cover songs from the 60s and 70s that you won’t be able to get out of your head. Then the Grift take the stage, playing rock ‘n’ roll, bluegrass, and country tunes. Saturday night will be even bigger than Friday. One of the best southern rock bands of all-time hits the stage – Molly Hatchet. Their mix of rock ‘n’ roll, blues, and country is reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brother’s Band. Saturday night also stars boogey-woogey band Commander Cody and the outlaw country group The Mallet Brothers Band. The live music all takes place at under the stars at the Festival Commons in Lake George Village. Festival Commons features a tent in case of rain, beer and food inside, and car and motorcycle parking near the venue. Not into motorcycles but want to rock out during Americade? These concerts are open to the general public.
So if you're a motorcycle lover, or you think you may want to be, head to Lake George Village this summer. Take a ride, check out some gear, and take in those Adirondack views. It's easy to see why Americade is one of the Lake George Area's most cherished annual events.
