Skiing & Snowboarding

Skiing and snowboarding are two of the can’t-miss winter activities if you’re looking to enjoy some wide-open slopes as the temperatures drop. Whether you are a seasoned skier or considering the sport for the first time, the region offers options for everyone!

Gore Mountain is the mecca of Lake George Area skiing. This four-peak ski and snowboard center in North Creek has 109 varied trails to explore along with 14 modern lifts, and amenities scattered around the resort to make sure you stay warm and comfortable.

Skiers and riders of any experience level will find a snow-filled adventure at West Mountain. West is a first-rate family ski center offering 30 trails of easy to expert terrain. There is no better place to get your family acquainted with skiing or riding. Let the kids take runs in the terrain park, or brush up on your own fundamentals with their expert instruction program. Ski and snowboard rentals are made easy with the help of West’s experienced staff. And, the resort has plenty of hills perfect for sledding or tubing too.

A hidden gem of East Coast winters, Hickory Ski Center offers a vintage skiing experience with expert-level terrain and all-natural snow.

Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-country skiing on Adirondack trails is another great winter workout, whether you’re a classic, touring, or skate skier. The area’s miles of cross-country ski trails offer all difficulty levels and some are even lighted at night! Garnet Hill Lodge & Outdoor Center in North River is a full-service resort providing lodging, dining, Nordic ski trails, and rentals. The North Creek Ski Bowl offers Nordic and snowshoe terrain with trails lit up into the early evening hours.

Just about any area hiking trial also makes for a great winter trekking experience with snowshoes. Summits like The Pinnacle and Schumann Preserve at Pilot Knob are popular, while many flat trails around the region also worth exploring. Beginners will enjoy the simple traversing paths of Queensbury’s nature parks & preserves, such as Rush Pond Trail. Experienced hikers can opt for something longer and more challenging by checking out Cat & Thomas Mountains.

Sledding or tubing, anyone? West Mountain offers 2-hour time slots for daytime and nighttime tubing. Four upper and six lower lanes are accessed by a magic carpet ride to the top. Or, take your own sled to one of our community sledding hills, such as Dynamite Hill Recreation Area, for some good old-fashioned sledding fun.

Multiple volunteer snowmobile clubs take excellent care of trail systems throughout the region, ensuring a top-notch riding experience.
