If you have ever needed to visit the urgent care in this area, there is a good chance you visited a Hudson Headwaters Health Network health center. The founder, John Rugge, wrote a book called The Complete Wilderness Paddler along with James West Davidson.
The number of authors who have written about the health and beauty of Lake George is great. There is the lovely Sweet Peas and a White Bridge, On Lake George When Steam Was King by Elsa Kny Steinbeck, forest ranger Frank Leobruno ponders the number of islands in Lake George Reflections, Island History and Lore, and the photographs and books of Seneca Ray Stoddard are widely regarded as some of the most defining representations of this area.
The novel The Last of the Mohicans written by James Fenimore Cooper and masterfully translated to film with Daniel Day Lewis in the lead role, is thought to have been penned in Warrensburg. There is a viewing platform just over the bridge between Downtown Glens Falls and South Glens Falls. A perfect must-see as you grab lunch.
Linwood Barclay writes thrillers and his fictional town of Promise Falls in Never Look Away is modeled off this region and features an amusement park and a newspaper reporter.
Thomas G. Kane has written another page-turner set in Lake George with adventure, politics, and literal fireworks as it takes place on the 4th of July. The book is called Desperate Hours.
JD Spero is a native of Lake George, and currently resides in the area, as she continues to produce YA literature on the heels of her Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award nomination and finalist status in the National Indie Excellence Book Awards for Catcher’s Keeper, a ‘what if’ story centered around the idea of Holden Caulfield being around as John Lennon was killed.
