Cooler temperatures and changing foliage make the month of September perfect for picking up a new fitness related hobby or kicking your current routine to the next level. The Lake George Area is home to plenty of races, walks, rides, and hikes to challenge and motivate you throughout September and beyond. Check out what’s in store this month!
A fun competitive weekend starts on Saturday the 2nd with the Olympic Distance Race; a 0.9 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike and 6.2 mile run. On Sunday, September 3rd the BIG George Triathlon Half Iron Distance Race kicks off with a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. Are you up to a challenge? Show us what you've got by competing in both events and taking home the King George Title!
Join us on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom for the Fall into Fitness 5K and Fun Run, to support Amanda's House at Glens Falls Hospital. Amanda’s House is a home away from home for patients and families who have traveled a distance to seek health care. The house is free for guests and supported through community donations. The house was established in memory of Amanda Rose Cafaro, who passed away from acute myelogenous leukemia. During her struggle, the communities in the greater Glens Falls area rallied to the aid of Amanda and her family. Show your support and have a great time while doing it.
Bring your yoga mat and end the first week of back-to-school with relaxation and zen. The Hyde Collection is hosting a night of yoga with instructor Kate Patterson, who will lead participants through a workout inspired by the art of Ellsworth Kelly.
The Tour de Daggett Lake is an annual 65 or 20 mile ride which benefits Rosie's Love, a charity providing pediatric cancer victims and their families special time together. Registration is at 7am; 65 miler begins at 8am; 20 miler begins at 9am.
Celebrate the fall running weather and relax in The Lake George Area. The ADK 5k starts and finishes at the Adirondack Pub and Brewery, 33 Canada Street. Join in the fun at the Music and Beer Festival from 10am until 2pm. Stay for lunch with the Hops, Chops and Roll Food Truck or take a look at the Brewpub menu. All finishers receive a free Pilsner glass and custom metal coaster.
Not your average 10k, a half or even a marathon, this is Ragnar! This Adirondack race is truly special. The course follows country roads through Saratoga with beautiful scenery, skirts the Hudson River, continues to Lake George Million Dollar Beach on the Beach Road. Relax, rest and enjoy the sunset over Lake George! Saturday the course takes you over Tongue Mountain north to southern Lake Champlain before you finish in Lake Placid.
Test your endurance on the beautiful trails at Garnet Hill. The event features two races with three age groups, 1-19; 20-39; 40 and older. The two races include a 1-lap course covering 6 miles, and a 2-lap course covering 12 miles. All races will start at the Ski Shop and finish at the Log House. Finish Line Celebration features live music and a hearty meal with lots of great things to eat and drink while you take in the view. Come on up and see all Garnet Hill has to offer!
Choose one of the three rides offered, 50 miles; 32 miles and 15 miles. The day is for bicyclists of all levels of expertise as you ride along scenic North Country lakes and roads. Fun at The Hub follows. The 32 mile and 50 mile rides begin at 9:30am and the 15 mile ride begins at 10am. Warren County Safe and Quality Bicycling Organization promotes safe and quality bicycling in Warren County, New York. Maps and route directions for each ride will be available at the registration table. Please note a helmet is required.
Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival 5k and 10K
Enjoy the beautiful Adirondack autumnal scenery along the courses of the 5k and 10k, both of which begin at the Town of Chester Municipal Center.
A fun and family-oriented trail run/walk. The course is a combination of rolling cross-country trails and flat base area, with a few steeper spots within the wooded areas. Walkers and runners of all ages are welcome. Enjoy live music and fun, it’s a great way to spend an early autumn day. A scenic ride aboard the Northwoods Gondola is included for every participant. Treasure hunt for prizes on-course, as well as be "in the running" for our great raffles. There are also wards for registered runners who place in numerous categories.
