Prospect Mountain Hiking Trail

Discover gorgeous views of Lake George from the top of Prospect Mountain!

This moderate-to-difficult, 3.2 mile round trip trail leads to the summit for rewarding views of Lake George and beyond. The trail follows a roadbed of an old cable railway that served a hotel at the summit.

This hike is steep with few opportunities to rest. However, those who summit Prospect Mountain at 2,030 feet above sea level will be blessed with amazing views of Lake George, Vermont, and the High Peaks. The hike begins on Smith Street in Lake George Village. Hikers must cross an enclosed bridge that crosses over the Adirondack Northway before continuing on a more traditional hiking trail.

There’s a ton to do once you reach the top of Prospect Mountain. Pack lunch and have a picnic on the picnic tables or grass.

If you’d prefer not to hike you can still reach the summit by road on the Veteran’s Memorial Highway!
