The Adirondack Balloon Festival began in 1972 by “the Biggest Kid at the Balloon Festival” (Maury Thompson), Walter Grishkot with assistance from volunteers and continues the same with community support to this day as a not-for-profit organization.

For over 40 years hot air balloonists from across the United States as well as internationally based pilots have attended for the awe-inspiring views of the Southern Adirondacks.

The Festival takes place at the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport located at 443 Queensbury Avenue in Queensbury. Opening Ceremonies take place in Glens Falls at Crandall Park on Upper Glen Street on Thursday afternoon. The afternoon features live music, children's activities, food vendors and the flight of up to 20 hot air balloons ~ wind and weather permitting. In the evening the City of Glens Falls Block Party takes place on Glen Street downtown. Enjoy the live music, balloon baskets are on display, there is a car show and fun children's activities.

The festival features a wide-variety of hot air balloons including special shapes. Come out and see these special shape hot air balloons and all the others in an array of colors and decorations as they take to the sky.

There is lots of family fun, activities and entertainment throughout the days of the Festival. The Big Balloon Breakfast is served in the hangar Friday - Sunday.
